Influencer Discovery

Get some useful tips on how to search for the right influencers

Written by Victoria

Welcome to the HypeAuditor tutorial for the Influencer Discovery Tool — your go-to feature for finding influencers that fit your campaign goals.

This tool lets you filter millions of influencer profiles by platform, audience, and content focus to help you identify the best potential partners.

Step 1: Choose a platform

First, choose the social media platform you want to work with.
In this tutorial, we’ll focus on Instagram, though we’ll cover other platforms briefly later on.

Discovery works across Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, and Twitter.

Step 2: Understand filter access

Your available filters depend on your subscription plan:

  • Pro Plan users can access all filters

  • Basic Plan users will see a limited set — any filters marked “Pro” won’t be available

Step 3: Search by category or keyword

You can begin by selecting a category relevant to your campaign.

  • Use our predefined list of categories

  • Or type in a custom topic (e.g. gardening, home decor)

When creating a custom category:

  • Keep the keyword short and clear

  • Apply the AI Category Filter to get more accurate results

If you prefer to search based on keyword mentions rather than content category, just toggle to Keyword Mode — we’ll explain this in a later step.

Step 4: Apply additional filters

Click into All Filters to narrow your results further. You can filter by:

  • Audience size

  • Gender

  • Account type (e.g. personal accounts only, no brand pages)

  • Influencer location

  • Audience location

Tip: Prioritize audience location over influencer location.
An influencer might live in one country, but their audience could be in another — especially if they travel often or post in multiple languages.

You can add up to 3 countries in the audience location filter.

Once selected, the system sets a minimum percentage automatically. We recommend keeping this as is — it's rare for an influencer to have more than 80–90% of their audience in one country.

If needed, you can later adjust the percentage depending on how many results you get.

Advanced filters for finding high-quality creators

Now that you know the basics, let’s explore some advanced filters that can help you find better-matched, higher-quality influencers for your campaign.

Filter: Contact information

You can filter influencers based on whether their email is available — but keep this in mind:

  • According to our internal survey, around 40% of influencers prefer being contacted via DM

  • Many don’t list their email to avoid spam, so email-only filters may exclude strong candidates

We recommend not relying solely on email availability, especially when casting a wide net.

Filter: Keywords

Want to be more specific in your search? Use the Keyword Filter to search:

  • Posts

  • Bios

  • Or exclude certain keywords completely

You can apply up to 10 terms, including:

  • Words (e.g. “kitchen design”)

  • Hashtags (e.g. #interiordesign)

  • Phrases

  • Emojis

This is useful if you want to:

  • Find creators posting about a niche topic

  • Avoid certain themes

  • Target influencers mentioning a competitor or adjacent brand

Filter: My Network exclusion

Already added influencers to My Network?

  • You can exclude saved influencers from your Discovery results

  • Just select your existing list to avoid reviewing the same profiles again

Filter: Audience Quality Score (AQS)

Our proprietary AQS metric ranks influencers from 1 to 100, based on:

  • Audience quality

  • Engagement rate

  • Follower authenticity

  • Growth dynamics

Tip: Use AQS ≥ 60 to filter out lower-quality accounts and find more reliable creators.

If you use AQS, there’s no need to separately select engagement rate — it’s already factored in.

Filter: Audience interests

Instead of focusing on the influencer’s category, you can filter by audience interests.

  • This is useful when you care more about who the followers are than what the influencer posts about

  • For example, if you sell baby products, filter for audiences interested in parenting — even if the influencer covers lifestyle more broadly

Filter: Brand mentions

Want to find influencers who have mentioned a specific brand in the last 6 months?

  • Use this filter to search for:

    • Your own brand

    • Competitors

    • Adjacent brands with overlapping audiences

Choose to include or exclude influencers based on these mentions.

Viewing, Sorting, and Exploring Influencer Profiles

Now that we’ve applied filters, let’s take a look at how to view and analyze the results.

Saving your search

Once your filters are set, you can save your search using the icon at the top.
You’ll be able to return to this exact filter set later from the Saved Searches folder — helpful if you work on campaigns with similar criteria.

Viewing and sorting results

You can view influencer results in two formats:

  • Gallery View: A more visual layout showing profile pictures and sample content.

  • List View: A structured table for quick comparison of key metrics.

You can also sort results by any column — for example:

  • Follower count

  • Engagement rate

  • Audience quality

  • Estimated post price

What you see in the Results table

Each result includes a range of useful data:

  • Follower count vs. Quality audience

  • Engagement rate

  • Recent brand mentions (from the past 6 months)

  • Keyword hits (if you used the Keyword filter — including frequency and location in bio or content)

  • Email availability

  • Connected social platforms

  • Categories

  • Audience location split (if you applied that filter)

Previewing an influencer profile

Click on any creator to preview more details:

  • Basic info: Follower count, country, categories, average engagement

  • Estimated reach: Per post and per story

  • Post pricing: System-estimated rates

  • Growth graph: Follower trend since we added this profile

  • Brand mentions: Who they talked about in the past 6 months

  • Bio content: See how they describe themselves

  • Engagement benchmarks: Compare this creator to similar-sized accounts

Unlocking full reports

To access in-depth metrics like:

  • Audience demographics

  • Content performance

  • Brand safety

  • Sentiment analysis

…you need to unlock the full report.

  • 1 report = 1 credit

  • Your remaining credits are displayed in the lower-left corner under your profile

  • Reports stay active for 12 months while your subscription is active

  • Team members share access — no extra credits required for repeated views

This helps keep your workflow smooth across campaigns and teams.

Managing lists & cross-platform filters

Let’s now look at how to organize selected influencers and explore filter options beyond Instagram.

Saving influencers to lists

Once you’ve found relevant creators, you can save them into lists within your My Network section:

  • To save a single profile:

    • Click “Add to My Network”

    • Create a list, e.g. “US Home Decor”

    • The influencer will be saved there

  • To save multiple profiles:

    • Select checkboxes

    • Click “Add to My Network”

    • Move them into an existing list

To view saved influencers, go to My Network — all lists and creators are stored there for easy access and future outreach.

Exploring filters on other platforms

Now let’s quickly go over platform-specific filters available for:

YouTube

Filters are similar to Instagram, but tailored for video metrics:

  • Channel Quality Score (CQS) – similar to AQS, for overall account quality

  • Average views per video

  • Average views on Shorts

  • Engagement rate

  • Average comments

  • Reactions and comment/reaction rate

  • Subscriber growth

  • Video count

TikTok

Again, many shared filters, but with TikTok-specific metrics:

  • Average views (last 90 days)

  • Average likes (last 30 days)

  • Average comments & shares

  • Like growth

  • Followers growth

  • Total likes

Twitch

Live-stream-specific filters include:

  • Influencer size

  • Language

  • Keywords & location

  • Gender

  • Follower growth

  • Live viewers count

  • Active days per week

  • Games played

X (formerly Twitter)

Useful if you're scouting thought leaders or trending accounts:

  • Influencer size, location, and language

  • Verified badge

  • Keywords

  • Engagement rate

  • Follower growth

  • Most recent post

  • Average tweets, replies, likes, retweets (last 30 days)
