Cost per Mille (CPM)

Learn what Cost per Mille (CPM) is and how it helps you compare the cost-efficiency of Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok creators.

Written by Iren

In marketing terms, Cost per Mille (CPM) refers to the money an advertiser invests for 1,000 ad views. This typically applies to display ads – banners, native advertising, etc.

In HypeAuditor, CPM is used to evaluate the estimated amount of money paid to an analyzed influencer for 1,000 views of their videos. These metrics include Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok influencers.

To calculate CPM, HypeAuditor uses public data about views for YouTube and TikTok influencers and Reach for Instagram influencers.

CPM formula for YouTube & TikTok:

CPM = Total Budget ÷ Number of Views X 1,000

Number of Views is tracked automatically, and Budget (payment) is taken from your proposal.

CPM formula for Instagram:

CPM = Total Budget ÷ Reach X 1,000

Reach can be indicated manually. If it's not, HypeAuditor will use Estimated Reach, and Budget (payment) is taken from your proposal.

Brands and marketers can use CPM to benchmark how cost-efficient a creator is compared to others or to traditional display advertising, helping them make more informed decisions when selecting influencers for a campaign or allocating budget in different platforms.
