How global, country, and category rankings are calculated?

Learn how HypeAuditor calculates global, country, and category rankings for Instagram creators based on real followers and authentic engagement, and what requirements an account must meet to appear in the rankings.

In order to get into the Influencer rankings chart on HypeAuditor, an Instagram user's account should at least match the following requirements:

  • have public access (non-private)

  • count more than 10K followers

  • encounter new posts within the last 30 days.

A vast number of Instagram users' accounts were analyzed and ranked by the number of real followers and authentic engagement (number of likes and comments that come from real people and influencers) accordingly.

Instagram users are not excluded from HypeAuditor's Rankings based on their AQS (Audience Quality Score). Only the number of real followers and authentic engagement is taken into account. If an Instagram user has a low AQS, but a high number of real and engaged followers, their account will still be included in the ranking.

The ranking metric is updated on a daily basis. It shows changes in ranking position compared to the previous month in order to help you keep track of who's got at the top and who's growing authentically.

Every Instagram user can participate in several category, country, and category+country rankings. Country rankings are based on the number of real followers and authentic engagement from that country.

Certain categories are temporarily excluded for some countries as they don't get enough exposure to the Instagram landscape. The Search feature currently only works for Top Global.

Why rankings matter for influencer marketing

Rankings give marketers and brands a reliable starting point for creator discovery. By filtering by country or category, you can quickly identify the top-performing creators within a specific niche or audience geography without manually comparing follower counts or engagement figures. The monthly change in ranking position is especially useful for spotting creators who are growing authentically, making them strong candidates for long-term partnerships or campaigns targeting engaged, real audiences.
